Spencer's Grill
The original Spencer's Grill was opened in March of 1941 at 303 South Kirkwood Road by William Spencer. At that time the Chippewa Drugstore, Kroger Grocery and the barbershop were all in the same bustling block. That Spencer's Grill was cut short when Bills draft number came up in September of 1943.
Back from the service, Bill took up where he left off, opening Spencer's Grill at the current location on October 14, 1947. With the help of his wife, Irene, Bill kept the business open 24 hours a day, making the most of traffic on the 61/67 Bypass.
The Grill was remodeled in 1948. Much of the fixtures you see today date from that time. The neon sign that hangs outside also dates to 1948.
Today Spencer's Grill is part of the thriving downtown business district of Kirkwood, Mo. As the restaurant celebrates their 60th anniversary on the same corner, it is still the place "Where Friends Meet and Eat".
This is one of the friendliest restaurants I have ever dined in. The staff will get to know your favorite dishes very quickly if you should become a "regular".
