History
In the mid-19th century, free land was promised to those who could reach the end of the Oregon Trail. It wasn't an easy trek from Independence, Mo. (think covered wagons), but they came in droves until 1912. The end of the trail could have been anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, but today its namesake museum is in Oregon City.
