Eleven miles east of Lower Stanley on Highway 75, the remains of the Sunbeam Dam can be seen in the river below the north shoulder of the road. The dam was the only one ever built on the Salmon River, which remains today one of the last free-flowing rivers in the west. It was intended to provide power to mining operations located on the Yankee Fork, but in 1911, the mine property was sold at a Sheriff's auction and part of the dam was dynamited in 1934.
