This memorial honors all of the men and women who have faithfully served their country in the Army's famed 101st Airborne Division. On August 19, 1942, four days after the 101st was activated, its first commander Major General William C. Lee told his new recruits "The 101st has no history, but it has a rendezvous with destiny."
The memorial consists of a bronze eagle, representing the units "Screaming Eagles" nickname, perched atop a granite stone. Lee's words are carved into the stone below the eagle.
