Construit entre 1991 et 1994 pour l'état, il supplée l'ancien pont Albert-Louppe, situé à proximité et en parallèle, qui est aujourd'hui réservé à la circulation des véhicules lents ainsi qu'aux cycles et aux piétons.
Suite à des accidents survenus à cause d'une vitesse excessive sur le nouveau pont et à cause du trafic des personnes de l'agglomération se rendant travailler dans Brest, un radar a été placé sur le pont, en direction de Brest.

Following accidents which have occurred because an excessive speed on the new bridge and because of the traffic of the people of the agglomeration going to work in Brest, a radar was placed on the bridge, for Brest.
