Welcome to the largest city in the southern hemisphere. This is a waytour of some waymarks around Sao Paulo's financial district. To make it easier, I've linked to the individual waymarks. I've also made a map of the tour.
The Tour
You’ll be starting your tour on the corner of Alameda Casa Branca and Avenida Paulista (see coords above.) Cross the street, and you’ll be in front of the Trianon Park (
WM160W).
1) Across the street is the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo (
WM15NN). In front of the park is the statue of Anhanguera (
WM160T). The statue is for a historical figure in Sao Paulo state history. Going into the park you’ll see two statues by Brazilian
sculptor Victor Brecheret. The sculptures are "Fauno" of the Roman spirit (
WM1J4N) and "Aretuza", the Greek nymph (
WM1J4P)
2) Exiting the park, continue going down Paulista, passing Rua Peixote Gomide , Alameda Ministro Azevedo and Rua Padre Joao Manuel. Between Padre Joao Manuel and Augusta is Conjunto Nacional ((
WM1752). This is one of Latin America’s oldest malls.
3) Continue walking down Paulista. Pass Rua Haddock Lobo and Rua Bela Cintra. At the end of Bela Cintra, you’ll need to cross the street to the island. On the island you’ll see graffiti like 'Nipo Brasileiro' (
WM18Z8) painted by 100 professional graffiti artists (look over the railing, down to the street below) Also on the island you’ll see the statue of Venezuelan historical figure Francisco de Miranda (
WM171F).
4) Cross the street to the other side of Paulista. You should end up on the corner of Paulista and Bela Cintra. Crossing the Bela Cintra, you’ll be at the Paróquia São Luís Gonzaga, a Roman Catholic church (
WM1MZE). Notice the doorway (
WM171P).
5) Continue going down Paulista crossing Haddock Lobo and Augusta. Here you’ll see the Center 3 mall (
WM18E4)
6) Continue walking down, crossing Rua Frei Caneca. After the street is the in front of the federal courthouse, Tribunal Regional Federal da 3ª Região (
WM1FK3).
7) You can also do a side venture down Alameda Ministro Rochas Azevedo to see the abstract pieces of "Abstracoes Geometricas" (
WM1KV8) and a beautiful fountain (
WM1KV7)
8) Continue to walk down Paulista, you’ll pass MASP (you can see a Picture Perfect Postcard waymark from the MASP pool.(
WM1979).
9) At the corner of Alameda Rio Claro and Paulista, you can see the FIESP building (
WM171B) across the street.
10) Walking along, stop at the corner of Alameda Campinas and Paulista. Across the street is the HSBC building(
WM1718).
11) On your side of the Gazeta building, home of the Radio (
WM171Y) and TV station (
WM19TM).
12) Continuing down Paulista, cross Alameda Joaquim Eugenio de Lima and Av Brigadeiro Luis Antonio. At the corner of Luis Antonio and Paulista, cross the street. Continue down Paulista. At the corner of Paulista and Leoncino de Carvalho is the sculpture "O Caixeiro" (
WM1H8N).
13) Continue a few feet to the Casa das Rosas museum (
WM1B96) and garden. Inside you’ll see a lot of waymarks (fountain, rose garden, the gates to the estate)
14) Finally continue down to the Praca de Osvaldo Cruz (corner of Paulista and Rua Des Eliseu Guilherme) Here you can see a now and then photo waymark (
WM1FJC).
This is the end of the tour. It’s a tour intended for business men (who usually find themselves in the area) The tour is about 2.5 miles.
