This statue is located in the edge of downtown Bonham, Texas in front of the Sam Rayburn Library. It is very easy to locate and very accessible. Although born in Tennessee he was a Democratic politician from Bonham, Texas and is regarded by historians as the most effective Speaker in history.
He entered Congress in 1913 at the beginning of Woodrow Wilson's presidency and served in office for more than 48 years. Rayburn grew up in abject poverty, and would champion the interests of the poor once in office. Rayburn, though a menacing and powerful presence on the House floor, was incredibly shy outside of work.
There is to much to state about this great man here however, the Internet holds much on this man. The above are excerpts are from the web site: Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia.
