The old waterfall was a small sandstone outcropping, which washed away in a flood, along with a few streets and a town square sometime after 1876. A ripple of water is all that remains.
The new waterfall is the result of the "Put The Falls Back" campaign in 1986. The non-profit Wichita Falls Streams and Valleys organization wanted to bring back the cities namesake. The price tag to make the city honest: $418,000.
