At Bossier City, across Red River from Shreveport, Louisiana, the nearby Barksdale Air Force Base, a very large B-52 base was named after a Lieutenant Eugene Hoy Barksdale. This was the name given the base that took ten years to achieve. It was a memorial to this man as he was a test pilot who died in a test in 1926. It was a very unfortunate accident. In the test he was performing that fateful consisted of purposely putting the plane into a spinning maneuver. He did it twice. The first time the plane recovered but, the second time it didn’t. He bailed out but , his chute cords caught in the braces of the wind an were sheared and this resulted in his death.
