This siren is tested every day at 12 noon. For many residents, its the only way we keep time.

I've heard that this siren is a tsunami warning. I believe its original use was during WWII for warning of naval attack. Nearby Humboldt State University was painted camoflage due to its prominent location on top of a hill withing range of big guns from the coast. There are also reports of Japanese submarines sighted off the coast nearby.
