The City of Huron, SD, tells its story through outdoor murals painted on the sides of the buildings in the downtown area. There are presently about twenty murals and a new one is added annually.
Until June, 1880, the railroad just came to the east side of the James River near Huron, SD. A new railroad bridge was opened and was the longest and highest bridge in the Dakotas. This mural depicts the first train to cross that bridge, which led to the rapid development of the area.
