The structure is located on a private dirt driveway across the street from Chotola, and directly behind the RE/MAX real estate office.

There are two homes on the dirt road. Positive identification of the landmark was made by consulting with the U.S. Post Office in Blowing Rock, where I was advised that the former occupant, Helen Hartley, passed away five years ago.

The Dept. of Transportation has plans to widen the US-321 Bypass. This might impact the Bollinger-Hartley House, which is sandwiched between the business route and the bypass, on a narrow strip of land. In addition, the parcel to the left of the house is for sale, and might possibly be put to commercial use.

To reach from the intersection of US-221 and Main Street in downtown Blowing Rock, go north on Main Street 0.6 mile to the entrance to Chotola. Continue another 300 feet on Main Street to the driveway, on the right. It is marked as house number 461. The GPS coordinates were taken on the dirt road, directly in front of the house.
