The cast iron fountain in 'The Square' was erected to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria (1897). There was originally a lamp post here prior to the fountain being erected, so a lamp was incorporated in the design. There is a plaque which reads 'Jubilee Lamp Erected by public subscription 1897'. Suggesting the local populace paid for it.
