The Salem Presbyterian congregation was first organized in 1831 and quickly outgrew their small church, which stood near the current structure. Construction on the current building began in 1851 and was build primarily with slave labor. The bricks used for the building was molded and burned on site. The total cost of building the church was about $4,500.00 and the debt was retired prior to the dedication service in August 1852. The Salem Presbyterian Church has been in constant use since 1852 and services are still held each Sunday.
