Blind Boone Park was originally built during segregation as a park for the African-American population of Warrensburg. The park had little besides a couple barbecue grills and an open field. With the ending of segregation the park became unused and then a mostly forgotten overgrown piece of land. Starting in 2000 a huge community effort was put forth to bring this long forgotten park back to life. The effort involved more than 3000 volunteers. The park is named for John William "Blind" Boone, a blind mixed race Ragtime and classical concert pianist from the late 1800's, who resided in Warrensburg. The renovations of the park included making the park accessible for all without regard to disabilities. The park has trails, picnic areas, a wind harp and a sculpture of the park's namesake "Blind" Boone.
The park has received many awards and grants during its renovation and is now viewed as one of the jewels of the community.
