Wilson Free Library was founded in 1910 under the leadership of the Delphic Circle, an organization still active in the Wilson community.
The library's first home was at 279 Pettit Street, the home of the first librarian, Arthur Dobbs. After a stop on the second floor of the Blake Block on Young Street, the library moved to it's current site in 1929. The building was originally the Haner Grocery Store and it has gone through several additions and remodelings. The most recent was completed in 1991 and extended and updated the facility.
