From the State Historic Preservation Office website:

Narrative Description:
Little Denmark Evangelical Lutheran Church is a clapboarded structure with a steeply-pitched gable roof, round-head windows, and a square tower and belfry capped by an octagonal spire.

Statement of Significance:
Little Denmark Evangelical Lutheran Church was constructed by a Danish community which settled in the vicinity of Gowen in 1877-79. The church was built entirely by local labor.

The settlement Lutheran church is the oldest active Lutheran church in Montcalm County and represents a hundred-year link to the Danish pioneers who cleared the pine forests and planted their first crops among the stumps. Settlement was and continues to be a religions and social focal point for many area families. With many present members being lineal descendents of the founding families, a respect for tradition has encouraged the preservation of the church building and furnishings. From the 1881 bell in the steeple, to the handmade white pine pews, communion rail and pulpit, the church retains many original furnishings.
