Whiteside County Fair was established in 1870. Today it is one of several agricultural county fairs in the area.
The farm animals on display here include Chickens, Rabbits, Ducks, Geese, Sheep, Hogs, Goats, Dairy and Beef Cattle, and Horses. Because of the large number of entries, each of these see competition on different days. They are brought in during the afternoon of one day, go through competition the next morning, and are taken home that afternoon to reduce stress on the animals and make room for the next days competitors.
For the gardener, there is competition for floral displays, fresh fruits and vegetables, and for field crops. For the homemaker, there is Baked goods, canned goods, clothing, quilts, knitting, and other needle & thread displays of workmanship.
There is also competition for the collector - whether it's salt & pepper shakers, spoons, postcards, tin soldiers, or Star Wars characters.
Come, spend a day at the Fair. See the sights, Eat the corndogs, the cotton candy, and the fried bread. Drink the lemonade, or have a snow cone. Watch the demolition derby, the bull riding, the tractor pulls,and/or the horse races. Then it's time to ride the Farris Wheel, the Octopus, or the Tilt-a-Whirl, and get an upset tummy. It's all fun at the County Fair. Don't miss it.
