This large brick house was built 1849-50 at Seventh and Locust Street in downtown St. Louis. It was the former city home of the Missouri Botanical Garden founder, Henry Shaw. In accordance with his will the building was to be "carefully taken down and rebuilt" on this site, which was done in 1891. The southern part of the building was added in 1908. The building is now used for administrative offices for the Missouri Botanical Garden.
