[FR] Sur le plateau dominant la plaine d'Alsace, entre Saint-Jean-Saverne et Ernoslheim, se trouve le site protohistorique de la Heidenstadt.
A l'est et à l'ouest, le relief abrupt participe à la défense du site. Au nord et au sud, deux remparts de près de 8 mètres de haut et 12 m à la base barrent la crête, formant ainsi une superficie défendue de près de 25 hectares.
La caractéristique majeure du site est constituée par le dispositif d'entrée particulier : de part et d'autre de chaque porte, on remarque un court rempart de 8 mètres, relié en équerre au rempart principal.
Ce système appelé "Zangentor" (porte en tenaille), est caractéristique des forteresses datant de l'époque gauloise (fin IIe s. ou début Ier s. avant JC).
Un panneau pédagogique installé sur place présente plus en détail le lieu. Le site s'inscrit dans le cadre d'un circuit archéologique parcourant les environs.
[ENG] The protohistoric site of Heidenstadt is located on the plateau dominating the plain of Alsace, between Saint-Jean-Saverne and Ernolsheim.
On the east and the west sides, the abrupt relief contributed to the defense of the site. On the north and the south sides, two ramparts of almost 8 meters in height and 12 m at the base block off the hill top, thus forming a defended surface of almost 25 hectares.
The major characteristic of the site consists of a particular feature of the entrance : on both sides of each door, one notices a short rampart of 8 meters, connected at right angles to the principal rampart. This system called “Zangentor”, is characteristic of the fortresses dating from the Gallic time (end of the 2nd century or beginning of the first century B.C.).
An interpretive panel installed at the location describes the place in more detail. The site is part of an archaeological circuit traversing the surroundings.
