Webster Church was founded by newly freed slaves shortly after the Civil War. The original church was built in 1889, but had been significantly altered in 1951.

After the Civil War, Freedmen settled in this neighborhood, called Diamond Hill, and took on the tasks of building a social infrastructure. This church remains the center of Victoria’s African-American community.
