This picture shows the 'Fort near Vijfhuizen', one of the 42 fortresses and defence works forming the 'Stelling van Amsterdam', the Amsterdam Defence Line, built in the nineteenth century to protect Amsterdam (capital of The Netherlands) against armed forces. The entire defence line is proclaimed World Heritage by the Unesco (see (visit link) for more details on that).
