This sundial is pretty adorable. It is in the shape of a globe sliced in half on a turtle's back! Really cool. Anyway, the North American Sundial Society (http://sundials.org/registry/) calls this one the 'Navigator's Dial' because on the dial itself there are the images of three explorers of the California coastline.
The turtle is on a pedestal about chest high. and the dial is angled and about 2 feet in diameter. If you get chance to go into the De Young go up in the tower. Admission to the tower is completely FREE! Take care.
