Opened in 1909 as one of the South's premier streetcar pleasure parks, it consists of 32 informally landscaped acres and contains an 1890's Dentzel Carousel which is designated a National Historic Landmark
This park has many other recreational facilities including a swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, and ball fields. The other major feature is the Jimmie Rodgers Museum and memorial.
