This one is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and it's easy to miss from any of the main roads due to the very small signs announcing its where-abouts.
This course features 18 holes with mature trees, rolling landscape, and several ponds to test your game. There is also a grass driving range, chipping/putting green, practice bunker. There is a snack bar available, but no alcohol.
This course was opened in 1973 by Dwight and Myrtie Black, and is still owned and operated by them as well. It was voted Course of the Year in 2006 by the Ohio Golf Course Owners Association.
Weekend & holiday rates are $28 or $39 with a cart, Weekday (after 2pm wknd –Hol) $19 or $30 with a cart, 9 holes on a weekday are $12 or $18 with a cart. They offer several packages covering everything from a few days, to a yearly pass.
I've played here several times in the past when I played on my high school golf team. This was and still is the home course for Buckeye Valley High School, so we would come down here a couple times each year to play against them. As I remember the course seemed to drain well, even after some rain there were no real problems with standing water where it shouldn't be. The greens were relatively fast. Several of the holes dip into and out of a valley to make things interesting. The front nine was a little tighter and more difficult, since the back nine is a newer addition, the trees haven't had an opportunity to fully grow in.
As I mentioned above this course has much local interest. Ben Curtis winner of the 2003 British Open is the grandson of Dwight and Myrtie Black, and grew up playing on this course. His win at the British Open created some news in the golf world as this was his first major championship, and before this he was relatively unknown in the PGA.
The photos I've posted don't show the actual course very well. The course was closed due to it being Easter Sunday, and about 30° with snow. I'm hoping to get back out there this summer, since it's been about 10 years since I've played there. I'll get some additional pics then and update the page.
