Hillsborough River State Park in Thonotosassa, Florida. Hillsborough River State Park was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1936 and opened to the public in 1938. This 2,990-acre park provides camping, picnicking, canoe rentals and seasonal swimming. Approximately eight miles of nature trails allow visitors to wander through hammocks of life oaks, sabal palms, magnolilas and hickories which border the scenic Hillsborough River.
Fort Foster is also located within the park. Through a living history program, visitors can step back in time to observe fort personnel carrying out their daily duties in the year 1837.
