On the fourth floor of the George Herbert Jones Laboratory on the University of Chicago's campus is a small room. In this room, currently used as a closet, in September 1942, was the first isolation of a measurable quantity of Plutonium. The building is currently used as a chemistry lab, and was "remediated" by the Department of Defense in the 1980s to remove radioactive remnants of the WWII-era projects.
The building is currently private but open during the day. There shouldn't be any problem entering the lobby, however, to look at the displays there.
