"Sjur Brakanes'smithy (blacksmith). Sjur began in 1860 with a small hotel (called a "pensjonat"), which would later become Brakanes Hotel. (A pensjonat is similar to a large bed and breakfast in size, but offers more long-term lodging.) The smithy first stood alongside the shore, east of the hotel. This is where Sjur made, amongst other things, the weathervane atop the church tower. Within the smithy are the forge (fireplace), bellows, and metal-working instruments/tools.
Wash House. Built around 1930, the wash house was used for washing clothes and baking. The house was formerly located close to the river for easy access to water. The clothes were boiled in a copper pot and then rinsed in a large bowl. The house was used for baking, and in the house are the flatbread "krotakake" oven and stone griddle. The house was still used until around 1955.
Ulvik dairy was located by the shore on this side of the river. Originally built in 1892, the dairy was one of many buildings destroyed by fire in an attack during WWII on April 25, 1940. The dairy primarily produced butter and traditional "gamalost" cheese. From 1905, the dairy building also contained a public bath, shower, and steam bath."
