As we can see in the plaque

"The first mention of the mill was in 1636, but it was probably built as early as the 1500s.
A very good saw. "The best there is in Hardanger," was an oft-used statement from documents of the time.
The mill processed a lot of material during the 1600s, which was then purchased by Scottish vessels.
From the start and until the 1960s, the mill was powered by water power from the Tysso river.
The water was transported through a long chute to the waterwheel. A penstock and turbine were added later.
The water chute - and later the penstock - stood where the road is today. Today, the turbine and parts of the penstock are still intact within the sawmill.
In 1927, the mill was expanded into KS Skeie Kassefabrikk (crate factory), which mainly produced fruit crates.
They began making pallets around 1960.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Skeie sawmill and crate factory grew allowing them to build-out the physical location.
In 1985, the business had approximately 15 employees.
Additionally, they changed the name to Skeie Tre, which it is still called today."
