Wilders is a restaurant that was a favorite to many people including Gangsters Like the Barrow Gang,that included Bonnie & Clyde. During the 20's and 30's Joplin was a boomtown because of the Lead and Zinc mining in the nearby area.
It was smaller than large cities but had the feel of a large party town like Kansas City or Chicago.
It was also located along Route 66.
When a Gangster felt that the large city was a little to hot for him to stay in, he would come to Joplin. Because this restaurant had good food, a bar and gambling up stairs, it was a good Gangster hangout.
