The Mammoth sculpture at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in Mammoth Lakes is an iconic bronze statue of a woolly mammoth, symbolizing the town’s prehistoric namesake and its mountain heritage. Positioned prominently near the base area and gondola station, the massive figure greets visitors year-round, framed by the surrounding peaks. The sculpture was created by artist Ball in 1990 and has since become one of Mammoth Lakes’ most photographed landmarks. It serves as both a tribute to the Ice Age creatures that once roamed the Sierra Nevada and a welcoming emblem for the ski resort.
