These two lions have no apparent reason to be present where they are. There is no plaque identifying the author or date of place. However, note that the Lion of Babylon is an unofficial symbol of Iraq. It's not present in the country's flag but it has been widely used by national institutions like the Iraqi Football Association.
In the local culture the lion symbolizes strength, resilience, and heritage, and the ancient lion of Babylonia was associated with goddess Ishtar, therefore with fertility, love, and war.
