"The convent of Melide was founded before 1325 at the crossroads of the French Way and the Jacobean Route from Lugo to Oviedo. In 1372, the community of friars changed location after receiving a donation, dated April 15, of some houses from the notary Fernán López and his wife Aldara González. Three years later, they again provided the convent with new assets so they could found a hospital at the gate of Melide to care for the poor and pilgrims. The hospital would have 12 beds and a daily alms of 12 loaves of bread. In 1498, Sancho Sánchez de Ulloa, protector and benefactor of the convent, commissioned the construction of a new church by the masters Xan de Llano and Xan Casal. In 1835, the convent closed its doors permanently after the exclaustration decreed by Mendizábal was implemented. However, in 1842, it was used as a parish church."
