The First West bound mail and passenges carried by the Butterfield Stage left Tipton Missouri on September 16,1858.
It arrived in San Fransico 24 days 2,700 miles later across rivers,deserts,mountains and hostile Indians.
It was replaced as Terminus when the Railroad reached Syracuse to the west in the summer of 1859.
