The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of Americas most beautiful scenic byways. The Blue Ridge Parkway winds over ridge tops and through hill bordered valleys as it traverses two states (Virginia and North Carolina), 29 counties, three national forests, and the Qualla Boundary Cherokee Indian Reservation. During the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway in the 1930's, builders used rough cut stone that was unearthed during construction as retaining walls, tunnel and bridge facing. This allowd the Parkway to blend with the surrounding land. There are well over a hundered of these stone arch bridge that were constructed to carry traffic over or under the Blue Ridge Parkway.
