This sign wss located on the Trail of the Molten Land. In 2011, to meet current ADA requirements the Trail of the Molten Lands had to be rerouted and signs replaced. New signs were designed which are more colorful but in many cases less informative than they could have been.
Marker Name: Levee of River of Fire
Marker Text: Imagine standing in this spot when the molten flow of lava broke through the side of Lava Butte (see next sign). The channel or gutter below would have been filled with the slowly moving river of red-hot, bubbling lava. At times, the surging flow would spill over the natural levee where you stand. Other times, parts of the levee itself would break off and be carried or rafted along with the flow.
