The original wooden depot is gone. This modern structure sits between two diverging rail lines, and can serve both without one interfering with the other. [See aerial photo.]
The Dept. of Motor Vehicles has a Driver's License office inside the building. And, on Saturday mornings, in season, there is a Farmer's Market in the west parking lot.
The depot is one block north of W. Chatham Street, between Academy Street and Harrison Avenue.
The track on the north side of the depot runs to Durham, Greensboro, and thence to Charlotte, and points southwest. The southern track goes south to Sanford, following Old US-1, then to Columbia (SC), and ultimately to Florida.
