Built 1883
Built as the Municipal Chambers and Hall for Benalla Shire.
In 1929 the hall was enlarged by extending the auditorium and balcony, the stage and dressing rooms, with kitchen and supper room below. Original timber interiors were plastered, with ornate finish. The facade was upgraded with new front doors and a portico. The architect for this major work was H.L. Hanlon of Benalla; with the interior designed by renowned Victorian theatre de-signer A.A. Sargeant. City of Benalla Council administration moved from this build-ing to the Civic Centre in Fawckner Drive in 1972. "
