The Hi-Line Theatre, built in 1949, opened its doors with 320 seats and quickly earned the title of "The House of Perfect Sound." Serving as the only theater between Shelby and Havre, it became a vital entertainment hub for the wide-open expanse of northern Montana.
Over the years, four owners have kept the spirit of this beloved landmark alive. In 1966, C.A. Gustafson sold it to projectionist Chuck Cross, who ran the show until retirement. Mr. Cross passed the torch to Carey Warren in 1980, who then sold it in 2001 to Willard A. Gustafson, C.A. Gustafson’s youngest son.
Today, the Hi-Line Theatre still draws crowds every weekend from March to October, offering a cozy place to catch the latest flick. And let’s not forget the legendary popcorn, made fresh with the original 1949 Manley machine—a taste of history you won't find anywhere else.
