Prince Karl of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, Germany (20 April 1839 – 10 October 1914) was the first King of Romania. He was known as Carol I of Romania.
He was regent of Romania from 1866 to 1914. From 1866 to 1881 as prince and from 1881 to 1914 as king.

Carol I married Princess Elisabeth of Wied on 15 November 1869 in Neuwied, Germany. They had 1 child, a girl, who unfortunately died of illness at the age of three. When the couple had no more children, they adopted the king's brother's son, Prince Ferdinand of Hohenzollern, as heir to the throne.

During Carol I's reign, he helped promote Romania's development, helped achieve the country's independence, improved its reputation, and promoted economic development.
At the same time, the first railways in Romania were built and oil extraction began.

The sculpture of Carol 1 is located in the park by Peles Castle. A castle that he had built as a summer residence. The castle is now available to the public.
