Pauline Elisabeth Ottilie Luise of Wied was the first Queen of Romania, married to King Carol I and was called Queen Elisabetha of Romania.
On the sculpture she is mentioned as Elisabeta Carmen Silva, Queen of Romania 1869-1916.
She was also a writer and in that profession she was known under the name Carmen Sylva.

The sculpture shows the queen sitting in a chair and sewing. It is located in the park by Peles Castle. A castle that her husband had built as a summer residence. It is now available to the public.

Elisabetha (29 December 1843 - 2 March 1916) was a German princess from Schloss Monrepos in Germany.
On 15 November 1869 she was married to Prince Karl in Neuwied. The couple had only one child. a daughter, who unfortunately died at the age of three from illness. This grief followed her throughout her life. When the couple had no more children, they adopted the king's brother's son, Prince Ferdinand of Hohenzollern, as heir to the throne.

On 15 March 1881, Romania was officially proclaimed a kingdom, the Kingdom of Romania, with Carol as its first king and Elisabeth as queen. Carol and Elisabeth were crowned in Bucharest on 10 May 1881.
When King Carol I died in 1914, she retired as queen dowager to a remote monastery. Here she continued her writing until her death.
