This monument is dedicated to the Turkmen who lost their lives during the Second World War - or Great Patriotic War as it is called in former Soviet Union countries. It was actually located somewhere else and in 2004, with the creation of this memorial complex, it was dismantled and moved here. It was originally created in 1970 and simply called The Eternal Flame. Upon its change it was added a fifth vertical elemento to symbolize the five regions of Turkmenistan. It's currently known as Monument Baky söhrat. And the complex itself is Halk Hakydasy.
The monument does an eternal flame and it's guarded by soldiers in cerimonial uniform. Do not take pictures of them!
It's usually a stop of any tours of Ashgabat.
