In Ashgabat, close to the embracing mountains, there is an area dedicated to literature and poetry. There one can visit a monumental statue of a famous local poet - Magtymguly Fragi - and a writers statues garden, where this statue of Goethe is included.
The statue, as all the others around, was covered in golden leaf, and depicts a Goethe declaiming, with a book in his right left and a writing feather in his right hand. Note for the Turkmen spelling of his name: Iogann Wolfgang fon Gyote. Besides his name only the years of birth and death are included in the plaque: 1749-1832.
