The story behind the dedication of the Latham Memorial Family Park on the former site of the 1920's Latham Sanitarium. The site now is a nice family park and veteran memorial.

"In the autumn of 2019, CPI put down a $10,000 deposit on the property as a show of commitment and then sought to raise the remaining $85,000 needed to fund the purchase. Within months, citizens came through with those donations. After much brainstorming and soliciting of ideas, the park’s needed components became clear and include:

a large, nearly maintenance-free gazebo that will accommodate celebrations and performances of various kinds,
a playground for children of all ages and abilities,
and an honorable and reverent memorial to Veterans from Moniteau County's Linn and Walker Townships.

A mural on a building to the south of the park site which depicts the Hospital as it stood on this spot for so many years.

The gazebo has been erected near the center of the property. The Victorian-style structure is 24 foot in diameter and is three tiered, standing over 25 feet in height. It is constructed primarily of white vinyl and is designed to minimize future maintenance. A large copper turkey weathervane stands atop the gazebo.

The children’s playground is done. All funding and replenishment of loans have been completed.
The park was transferred to the city the end of September 2022." (visit link)
