1. Feldherrnhalle: N 48° 08.507 E 11° 34.642
The Feldherrnhalle is a monumental loggia on the Odeonsplatz in Munich. Modelled after the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, it was commissioned in 1841 by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to honour the tradition of the Bavarian Army. In 1923, it was the site of the brief battle that ended Hitler's Beer Hall Putsch.
2. Nationaltheater: N 48° 08.387 E 11° 34.716
The National Theatre on Max-Joseph-Platz in Munich, is a historic opera house, home of the Bavarian State Opera, the Bavarian State Orchestra and the Bavarian State Ballet. The monument to Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria is erected in front of the theatre.
3. Rathaus Glockenspiel: N 48° 08.247 E 11° 34.531
The Glockenspiel in the tower balcony of the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) in Marienplatz is world famous and worth seeing. Since 1908, figurines representing stories from Munich’s history twirl on two levels daily at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. Different tunes are played on the clock’s 43 bells.
4. Ohel Jakob Synagogue: N 48° 08.070 E 11° 34.345
Ohel Jakob was built between 2004 and 2006 as the new main synagogue for the Jewish community in Munich. The building is part of the new Jewish Center consisting of the synagogue, the Jewish Museum Munich and a community center.
5. Asamkirche: N 48° 08.107 E 11° 34.182
The Asam Church, also known as St. John of Nepomuk, is a Roman Catholic Rococo Baroque church in Munich, built from 1733 to 1746 by the Asam brothers, the sculptor Egid Quirin Asam and the painter Cosmas Damian Asam as a private church. It is considered one of the most important late Baroque buildings in southern Germany. Our fifth photo shows the magnificent interior of the church. (Hours: The Asamkirche is open every day of the week from 9 am to 6 pm, but it has slightly different opening times on Fridays from 1 pm to 6 pm.).
