FR Le parc de la Schappe est l'oeuvre de Laurent Delphin, commandant de la place de Briançon, qui se lance en 1815 dans un projet extravagant : convertir d'anciennes carrières arides en un parc luxuriant à la mode orientale, avec un lac orné d'un pont japonais, d'un îlot et d'une pagode.
Il a fallu tout d’abord aménager les deux pentes sur les rives de la Durance qui étaient jusqu’alors d’anciennes carrières en terrasses. Un procédé original et ingénieux a été utilisé pour transporter la terre afin de combler ces terrasses : elle était déversée dans le grand canal de ville et celui des Reymondières par des dizaines de militaires. La réalisation du lac a été rendue possible grâce à l’abondance de d’eau. Enjambé par un pont japonais, celui-ci est profond de 2 mètres en son centre et le fond est recouvert d’un dallage de pierres rondes.
Le commandant Delphin a organisé la plantation d’arbres aux essences diverses, provenant de France, d’Italie du Nord, d’Autriche et de Suisse. Des sentiers ont été tracés et un grand verger a été créé sur la rive droite de la Durance au pied des remparts de la ville. Le Parc a reçu, en 1830, une médaille d’or de la Société Royale et Centrale d’agriculture.

La fontaine
Près de l'entrée du parc, on peut voir cette fontaine, semi-circulaire, en béton. Un pilier sur la partie droite amène l'eau qui s'écoule dans un bassin.
EN The Schappe park is the work of Laurent Delphin, commander of the Briançon area, who in 1815 embarked on an extravagant project: converting old arid quarries into a lush park in the oriental style, with a lake decorated with a Japanese bridge, an islet and a pagoda.
It was first necessary to develop the two slopes on the banks of the Durance which had until then been old terraced quarries. An original and ingenious process was used to transport the earth to fill these terraces: it was dumped into the city's grand canal and that of Reymondières by dozens of soldiers. The creation of the lake was made possible by the abundance of water. Spanned by a Japanese bridge, it is 2 meters deep in its center and the bottom is covered with a paving of round stones.
Commander Delphin organized the planting of trees of various species, from France, Northern Italy, Austria and Switzerland. Paths were laid out and a large orchard was created on the right bank of the Durance at the foot of the city ramparts. In 1830, the Park received a gold medal from the Royal and Central Society of Agriculture.

The fountain
Near the entrance to the park, you can see this semi-circular, concrete fountain. A pillar on the right side brings the water which flows into a basin.
