The Kuskvarnaån (Husquarna river) connects the lakes Ramsjön and Stensjön with the lake Vättern. Near the Huskvarna museum is the waterfall Huskvarnafallet, which has a total descent in eight tiers of 116m (380ft) over a length of one km. The biggest drop with a height of 23m (75ft) is just east of the Huskvarna Fabrikmuseum.
The water power of the Huskvarnaån was used for the watermills of the royal weapon manufactory in Huskvarna since the end of the 16th century. In the early twentieth century it was decided that the water power was more useful for generating electricity, so the companies built a dam upstream, some huge pipelines beside the river to channel the water and let most of it run through a turbine. So most of the time the waterfall is not very impressive to see.
During spring time, when the ice on the lakes is melting or when there is maintenance done to the turbines and/or pipelines there is more water than usually available. Then the water flows over the stones in the river bed and gives an impression on how it was in the old times.
A parking lot is available at N 57 47.191 E 014 16.986, it is free to use for some hours (see signs and use a parking disc). Best spot to see is from the terrace of the museum cafe or the bridge close to the museum entrance.
