"San Juan el Real es un templo católico situado en la ciudad de Oviedo (Principado de Asturias, España). Se trata de una iglesia parroquial perteneciente a la archidiócesis de Oviedo que tiene el título de basílica menor. El edificio, de estilo historicista, es obra de Luis Bellido y fue inaugurado en 1915. Se localiza en la plaza de Fernando Rubio, haciendo chaflán entre las calles de Melquíades Álvarez y del Doctor Casal. La parroquia tiene su origen en la iglesia románica construida en el siglo xii anexa al hospital de peregrinos de San Juan.1? Ambos se encontraban en la actual calle de Schulz, próximos a la iglesia de San Salvador.

El templo, diseñado por el arquitecto Luis Bellido, es de estilo historicista ecléctico muy ornamentado, con predominio de formas neorrománicas y bizantinas. Fue edificado entre 1912 y 1915 para sede parroquial y sustituir a la primitiva iglesia de San Juan.

Tiene planta de cruz latina de una nave, con capillas laterales y una gran cúpula sobre pechinas y cimborrio, recubierta externamente de azulejos rojos. La cabecera y el transepto rematan en ábsides poligonales. Toda su fábrica es de primorosa cantería de piedra rosa y blanca, con profusión de pináculos, molduras y capiteles. La fachada, en forma de hastial, ostenta un enorme ventanal de tres cuerpos sobre la portada, y está flanqueada por dos torres, coronadas por templetes que albergan las campanas.

Por su aspecto imponente, se la llama, popularmente, la Catedral del Ensanche. En su fachada se encuentra clavada una bomba no detonada de la Guerra Civil".
Los espléndidos vitrales, realizados por la casa Maumejean bajo la dirección de Granda, son de inspiración gótica. Son de particular interés los confesionarios realizados en madera con adornos dorados representado al hijo pródigo y al buen pastor".

The splendid stained glass windows, made by the Maumejean house under the direction of Granda, are of Gothic inspiration. Of particular interest are the confessionals made of wood with gold decorations depicting the prodigal son and the good shepherd".
