At a little over 280 ft. high, Fish Creek Falls is the second highest waterfall in the state of Colorado. And it’s very easy to get to. The parking lot is just a few miles from downtown Steamboat Springs and it’s just a short walk on a paved path to a couple of viewing areas. There’s also a trail down to the base of the falls. (This trail continues another 2½ miles up the creek to another waterfall known as Upper Fish Creek Falls.)
The Steamboat Springs area receives most of its annual precipitation in the form of snow which means that Fish Creek Falls is most impressive in the spring when all that snow begins to melt. Fish Creek Falls is also a popular ice climbing destination in the winter.
