There are three bridges crossing the Crooked River Gorge near this location: the 1910 railroad bridge; the historic 1926 Hwy 97 bridge; and the new Hwy 97 bridge (built in 2000).
The 1926 bridge is 464 feet long, 295 feet above the river and was the nation’s highest single arch span when constructed. After more than 70 years of service increased traffic and larger loads made the bridge obsolete. The bridge is now used as a pedestrian bridge and viewing platform for the Crooked River Gorge and the other bridges.
